The second Roundtable on Muslim Women: Rights and Reality was held in Hyderabad. We have participants from diverse fields of expertise and interests — academicians, lawyers, researchers, writers, feminist activists, journalists, Muslim women working at the grassroots, members of Muslim Personal Law Board, representatives of Christian Institutes, Member Secretary, Sachar Committee, Chair, Kundu Committee attended the roundtable. The issue of deprivation of citizenship rights among a large section of Muslims who are not enrolled as voters was raised. Another concern raised was to ensure that funds earmarked for minority development and for forming Muslim women’s self-help groups are utilized.

Muslim women: Rights and Reality (Charting out an Action Programme)

Venue: India Habitat Centre, Delhi

The first roundtable on Muslim Women Rights and Reality: Charting out an Action Programme was held in partnership with Majlis, Mumbai. The consultations have been jointly planned with other scholars – Prof Faizan Mustafa, VC, NALSAR, Hyderabad, Prof A. Shaban, Deputy Director, TISS and Adv. Irfan Engineer, Centre for Study of Society and Secularism (CSSS), Mumbai, among others. The roundtable was attended by at least 70 participants from diverse fields of expertise and interests – academicians, lawyers, researchers, writers, feminist activists, journalists and Muslim women working at the grassroots.  A report of the meeting was circulated to members of both MWF and Majlis and other

interested individuals with the hope that it will help to open up the discussion regarding practical aspects of reaching out to women in the community.

This was followed by the 2nd Roundtable on 28 August 2018 at Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad.

Duniya Ki Zeenat: Roundtable Consultation

Venue: Magnolia Hall, IHC, Delhi

MWF in collaboration with UN Women successfully held a one-day roundtable consultation to discuss, consult and direct the future of MWF at India Habitat Center, Delhi. The roundtable deliberated on improving and enhancing the socio-economic status of Muslim women and also critically examined personal and state laws that impact the lives of Muslim women. The discussants were from different regions who each brought unique perspectives. The objective was to become a movement for advocating the outcomes at national and international fora and conducting research to inform advocacy efforts.
